The 2023-24 Seattle University College of Education Boeing–William Allen Distinguished Scholar Series presents this conversation about radical philanthropy with Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan and Dr. Robert (Bob) Ross of The California Endowment.

Renowned scholar-educator, board member and award-winning youth mentorship leader Dr. Weiston-Serdan will speak about her life-changing work in philanthropy with mentor Dr. Robert (Bob) Ross, President and CEO of The California Endowment Board.

Weiston-Serdan is a faculty member at the Claremont Graduate College and the Chief Visionary Officer of the Youth Mentoring Action Network, a non-profit dedicated to building youth power globally through mentoring, education and wellness. She also founded the Center for Critical Mentoring and Youth Work, which works extensively with other community-based organizations in support of their youth advocacy efforts, specializing in training mentors to work with diverse youth populations, including Black, Latinx, LGBTZ and other minoritized and marginalized youth.

Bob Ross, MD is President and Chief Executive Officer of The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation established in 1996 to address the health needs of Californians. During his tenure at the endowment, Dr. Ross has provided leadership in supporting the vision of underserved communities. Prior to his appointment in September 2000, he served as Director of Health and Human Services Agency in San Diego County and as Commissioner of Public Health in the City of Philadelphia.
